There are a million and one things on your to-do list when starting your own brand:
Plus roughly a zillion other things just to get everything started. One thing that I feel like sometimes get pushed to the side is the photography and imagery that tells the story of your brand + business. This can be anything from website images to product shots.
I’m not just saying this because I am a brand photographer – I’m saying it because it’s true. Having consistent, cohesive, strategic and on brand imagery converts. The aesthetic is an added bonus. I COMPLETELY understand that working with a professional photog can be scary and it may feel safer to throw on portrait mode and just do it all with your iPhone – but don’t! Now, there’s nothing wrong with an iPhone shot – I mean I say all the time, the cameras are getting so good they’re going to take my job lol – but when you’re investing in your dream, in your brand + business, investing in imagery and photography just makes sense.
Photographers have spent years learning our craft – how to manipulate lighting, the best situations for the best results how to work the camera, how to edit, etc. – and we know what we’re doing lol. On top of learning all those goodies, brand photographers, like myself, are constantly studying, searching for inspiration, ripping ad campaigns from magazines, bookmarking campaigns on instagram, etc. and finding ways to make them better and individual. So while the initial investment can be scary and a little nerve-wracking, you’re not just paying for photos of your products or so everything will match on your website – you’re also paying for the experience of someone who lives and breathes it every. single. day.
One of my favorite added bonuses of having professional images done is social media. Having a cohesive instagram feed isn’t necessarily the most important thing – but I love it, haha. Your IG feed is basically a virtual business card – so why wouldn’t you want it to look good, ya know?

“With Bethany being a professional in the hair and make-up industry, and Brittany being a professional in the massage and nutrition industries, these sisters have always had a knack for helping others look and feel their very best. SJ Complexion was created to be an extension of this expertise, and to hopefully reach a much wider audience. Bethany and Brittany wants everyone to be happy and confident from the inside, out. They want you to LOVE YOUR COMPLEXION!”

Their sweet mama came to me and wanted to do a brand session for them to use on their website + socials that showcased their products AND their relationship as sisters. We went to a local venue and spent an hour skipping through fields, talking about skincare, shivering and complains about the cold – and creating magic.
